の

Possessive use (Noun omission)

Pattern

Noun + の (Noun omitted)

How it works

When the noun is clear from context, you can drop it and keep just の: 山田さんのです (it's Mr. Yamada's). わたしの国のも means “ones from my country too”.

Examples

  • この ぼうしは 山田さんのですか。Is this hat Mr. Yamada's?
  • 外国の 本も あります。わたしの 国のも あります。They have foreign books. They have ones from my country too.
