けっこう (Quite)
Quite, A lot, Fairly, Rather
JLPT N5
Pattern
けっこう + adjective / けっこうです
How it works
けっこう before an adjective means “quite / fairly”, often more than expected: けっこうおいしい. On its own, けっこうです can politely decline an offer (“no, thank you”) or mean “that's fine”.
Examples
- この 店、けっこう おいしいですね。This place is pretty good, isn't it?
- 「おかわりは?」「いいえ、けっこうです。」“Another helping?” “No, thank you.”
