いい / よかった / よくない

How it works

いい means “good”. It is irregular: every form except the plain present is built from よい. So it is よくない (not good), よかった (was good) and よくて (good and…), never いくない.

Examples

  • きょうは 天気が いいですね。The weather is nice today.
  • テストは あまり よくなかったです。The test didn't go very well.
