誰（だれ）
How it works
だれ means “who”. As the subject it takes が, not は: だれが来ましたか. Polite version: どなた. Add か for “someone” (だれか) or も with a negative for “no one” (だれも).
Examples
- あの 人は だれですか。Who is that person?
- だれが この ケーキを 作りましたか。Who made this cake?
