Verb[た・ている]+ Noun (Verb modified noun)
Verb modified noun, Relative clause
JLPT N5
Pattern
Verb (plain form) + Noun
How it works
A plain-form verb placed directly before a noun describes it, like an English relative clause. No word like “that” or “who” is needed. Use た-form for the past and ている for a state: 読んだ本 (a book I read), めがねをかけている人 (a person wearing glasses).
Examples
- きのう 読んだ 本は おもしろかったです。The book I read yesterday was interesting.
- めがねを かけて いる 人が 田中さんです。The person wearing glasses is Mr. Tanaka.
