Verb (dictionary / ない-form) + ように言う

How it works

ように言う reports an instruction or request: “tell someone to ~”. The person told takes に: 先生に早く来るように言われた (the teacher told me to come early).

Examples

先生に早く来るように言われました。The teacher told me to come early.
弟にへやをかたづけるように言った。I told my brother to tidy his room.
