まだ (Still)
Still
JLPT N5
Pattern
まだ + affirmative / negative
How it works
まだ means “still” with an affirmative and “not yet” with a negative (まだ~ていません). On its own, まだです answers “not yet”. Its opposite is もう (already).
Examples
- まだ 雨が ふって います。It's still raining.
- 「しゅくだいは おわりましたか。」「いいえ、まだです。」“Have you finished your homework?” “No, not yet.”
