てある (Something is done)
Something is done, Has been done, Remaining state
JLPT N4
Pattern
Noun + が + Verb (て-form) + ある
How it works
Transitive て-form + ある describes a state someone deliberately left: まどがあけてある (the window has been left open). Compare ている with intransitive verbs, which just describes the state.
Examples
- かべに 絵が かけて あります。A picture has been hung on the wall.
- ビールは もう 冷やして ありますよ。The beer has already been chilled.
