How it works

そういう means “that kind of / like that”, and belongs to the set こういう (this kind), ああいう (that kind over there) and どういう (what kind). どういう意味ですか asks “what does it mean?”.

Examples

  • この 言葉は どういう 意味ですか。What does this word mean?
  • そういう 話は 聞いた ことが ありません。I've never heard anything like that.
