JLPT N4
Pattern

Noun / plain form + みたいだ

How it works

みたいだ means “it seems” (a guess from what you see or hear) or “like / resembling”. It is casual; the written equivalent is ようだ. It follows nouns directly: 子どもみたいだ.

Examples

  • かぜを ひいた みたいです。I think I've caught a cold.
  • あの 雲は ねこ みたいだね。That cloud looks like a cat.
