真(っ) + color / word

How it works

真 (ま) or 真っ (まっ) before certain words means “completely / right”: 真っ白 (pure white), 真っ赤 (bright red), 真ん中 (right in the middle).

Examples

  • 顔が 真っ赤に なりました。My face turned bright red.
  • 部屋の 真ん中に テーブルが あります。There's a table right in the middle of the room.
