Sentence + だが / ですが

How it works

だが and ですが mean “but / however”. They join a noun or な-adjective statement to a contrasting one, or start a new sentence. だが is written or formal plain style; ですが is polite.

Examples

  • この 店は 有名だが、高い。This shop is famous, but it's expensive.
  • あしたは 休みですが、学校に 行きます。Tomorrow is a holiday, but I'll go to school.
