Verb + て (And)
And, Then (Linking events)
JLPT N5
Pattern
Verb (て-form), Verb
How it works
The て-form links actions in order: “do A and (then) B”. The tense comes from the last verb. る-verbs swap る for て; う-verbs change by ending: 書いて, 飲んで, 買って, 話して. 行く is 行って.
Examples
- あさ おきて、シャワーを あびます。I get up in the morning and take a shower.
- デパートへ 行って、くつを 買いました。I went to the department store and bought shoes.
