づらい (Hard to)
Hard to, Tough to, Painful to, Difficult to
JLPT N4
Pattern
Verb (ます-stem) + づらい
How it works
ます-stem + づらい also means “hard to do”, but stresses that it is uncomfortable or painful for the person: 言いづらい (hard to say). にくい is more about the thing itself.
Examples
- 先生には 言いづらいです。It's hard to tell the teacher.
- 足が いたくて 歩きづらい。My leg hurts, so walking is hard.
