あまり + negative
How it works
あまり with a negative means “not very / not much”. It needs a negative ending: あまり好きじゃない, あまりふりませんでした. Do not use it with an affirmative verb.
Examples
- この えいがは あまり おもしろく ないです。This movie isn't very interesting.
- きょねんは あまり 雪が ふりませんでした。It didn't snow much last year.
